SF Decorator Showcase Kitchen Cherub Mural
This whimsical mural of cherubs throwing baked goods and stealing pies, was painted on “cracked linen”. It was painted in the studio and later installed on the kitchen wall with water based wallpaper glue. “Cracked linen” is a process that makes the mural look very old. Several layers of topping compound and white glue are troweled on a lightweight canvas. After the canvas has dried, it is crumbled and folded and distressed so some of the plaster (topping compound) falls off, then it is painted and lightly sanded. A final coat of varnish seals the mural from kitchen mishaps. (Diane Sugahara – Designer)
